June 21st; Mystery BBQ Dinner 5-8 p.m. July 25th; Ice Cream Social 2008 Juarez Team Member Schedule
Juarez is located along the Mexico-Texas (Great State of Texas) border across from El Paso, TX. When we go their are three main areas of service/assistance. First, we work on an annual Construction Project, last summer it was building a second floor on the PCA equivalent church in Juarez which has been build by short term missionaries in past summers. Redeemer always goes the last week of the summer which is a perk because it means we get to see and finish the fruit of many others mission teams effort throughout the summer. Second, we put on a Vacation Bible School with leaders in the local church. This is an amazing time as we see young children learn the Westminster Shorter Catechism and the gospel message from the teaching of our team and local church members. This also aides the local church in getting to know the parents of these children so that they can invite them to church and share their faith in Christ with them. Third, their is an English Camp that is taught each year by one of the American churches who are their during the week. They use the Bible as their text which means those who come to learn English are reading the infallible Word of God. If you are interested in taking this trip the summer of 2008 and I hope you are be sure to let Kevin Lutz or Brian Hough know and start the process to get a passport immediately. Juarez Montage Video

Funny Moments in Juarez
On Sunday, our group went to a little home church where Pastor Samuel and his wife Zeny live. They are in charge of VBS. We sang songs in Spanish, and then repeated them in English. It was amazing to hear a song I recognized, such as "Shout to the Lord" sung in a totally different language. The people really put their heart into their singing, and it was so worshipful. When Pastor Samuel read the Bible, he had the Mexicans read one verse in Spanish, and then the Americans read the next verse in English. It was remarkable because we were in a way harmonizing together, like in Romans 15:5-6, "May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." Even though these people come from a completely different culture, our love and joy for Christ is the same and makes us united together as one people. Being a servant of the Lord through VBS every day was exciting. I had the privilege of playing with and talking to the kids, and they loved being with someone from the States. To them it was really special, and their moms just didn't understand why our group would come all the way to Mexico and do VBS without expecting any payment in return. God was working mightily in the people and in our group, and it was like nothing I have ever experienced before. Maybe you're thinking about the heat. Actually, the heat is very dry and tolerable. The weather we have in August is ten times worse than what they have in Juarez. Maybe you think you don't like Mexican food. Have you ever tried real Mexican food? I hadn't, and it was far different than what I had ever tasted before. It was "out of this world" different! :) It was definitely life-changing for me, and I would strongly encourage others to come and experience this. If God is preparing you for such a trip, you should definitely pray about this trip to Juarez. Pastor Samuel talked about in his sermon how Satan tries to put in roadblocks to stop us from serving the Lord. We mustn't let him succeed! We must trust God and push on even more violently as faithful servants of the Lord. ~April Cervinka |
