Every Sunday evening the church body meets for worship using the Indelible Grace arrangements and to share prayer request with each other. The adults then stay in the sanctuary where they are currently working through Church History. The 6th through 12th graders meet for small group discipleship with the HS students meeting with Laura and Brian and the Junior High students meeting with Todd Vesper or Matt Staples. We have been and will continue to work through the book, Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Life by Donald Whitney until the end of the year.
More on Discipleship What Is Discipleship? Discipleship is a planned relationship where a more mature believer leads a young believer to be more like Jesus Christ. In 1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul writes, "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." Discipleship is not a program geared towards information simply being passed from one to another, but rather discipleship has as its goal genuine sanctification by the power of Christ. Who Should Be Discipled? If you are a believer in Christ, then you should be. The word "disciple" occurs 269 times in the New Testament while "Christian" only shows up 3 times and is a reference to the Disciples. The New Testament teaches that discipleship is not for "Super-Christians," but rather something every believer in Jesus Christ should be doing. Discipleship is not an elective for the greatly devoted, but is a basic class in which all covenant children should enroll. What Will Discipleship Cost You? According to Jesus in Luke 14:33, it will cost you everything. From a resources standpoint, it will cost you time. Sunday nights will be used for meeting with a discipleship group and true discipleship will daily require you spend time in prayer and the Word of God. It is a commitment, but one that is more valuable than sports, video games, television and other activity you might spend your Sunday evenings on. There is a joy in truly living the Christian life that will make all other joys seem like old toys which have lost their novelty.
